Police in Ejisu have arrested two people, including a private security officer, for kidnapping a 14-year-old boy and demanding a $3,000 ransom from his family.

Charles Appiah, 38 and his accomplice security officer, Manasseh Fumey, 29, are said to have kidnapped the victim at the KNUST Junction in Kumasi, the Ashanti region capital.

A third person, identified only as Felix who is on the run, is being sought by the police.

The suspects had lured the second year Junior High School student from his Kwamo family house and took him to and uncompleted building at Apatrapa where he was kept locked up in a room.

Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said the suspects planned and executed the teenager’s kidnapping two weeks ago.

According to ASP Ahianyo, Felix posed as a resident abroad and together with his accomplices made friends and exchanged contacts with the victim, promising to buy him a smartphone and laptop.

“On March 24, 2019, fugive Felix invited victim to KNUST Junction to receive the smartphone and laptop [and] chloroformed the victim into a waiting Toyota Corolla vehicle and drove to Apatrapa where the victim was kept in a secluded two-storey building.

The 14-year-old victim was kept in this room in the uncompleted building before he was rescued

They considered his grandmother with whom they live in the same vicinity, to be “wealthy” and demanded her to pay the $3,000 ransome for his release.

However, the shouts of the boy from the said building, attracted attention leading to the rescue of the victim, Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah reported Wednesday, March 27.
