Former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia Constituency and served as the deputy minister-designate for local government and rural development, Ahmed Mohammed Baba Jamal.
He says the NDC has successfully filed a total of six (6) parliamentary seats in court from across the nation.
He indicates that, the party is challenging those Parliamentary seats for reasons they believe affected the final results declared by the Electoral Commission.
Alhaji Baba Jamal was speaking with Akwasi Aboakye on Neat FM’s Ghana Montie Morning Show.
According to him, the parliamentary seats in contention include Hohoe, Techiman South, Sefwi Wiawso, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Esikadu Ketan, and Zabzugu constituencies.
According to Baba Jamal, lawyer Tsatsu Tsikatsa has been designated to handle the Hohoe Constituency case, whilst other members of the legal team will take up the rest in their various jurisdictions.
He notes that collation was not done at the Techiman South Constituency. He adds that the party is seeking the court to compel the Electoral Commission to organize a recollection
“In Sefwi Wiawso, one ballot box was not counted. The collation center at Zabzugu was moved to a secret location, whilst the calculations were wrongly done at the Tarkwa Nsuaem, and Esikadu Ketan constituencies. Hohoe is being handled by Tsatsu Tsikatsa.
We are challenging these parliamentary seats because we believe the NDC candidates won the elections”. Alhaji Baba Jamal indicated.
He says the decision by the NDC to take such a move, falls within the laws of Ghana that enable people the opportunity to contest in court.
He says the NDC has concluded its investigations on all the cases.
“This is a normal election petition that if you have problems with the election, you can go and file and state your claims.
We have agreed with the candidates and the constituents. We have concluded our investigations and realized we have a case.
The Court has its timetable, so it is up to them to tell us when they will sit on the cases”. Baba Jamal added
