Ahenkorah apologises to Okudzeto

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah, has apologized to North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for verbally assaulting him after barging into an interview he was having with the media in parliament’s lobby.

“I am sorry, it will not happen again”, Mr Ahenkorah said in his apology on Thursday, 21 December.

It took the timely intervention of Tamale North Member of Parliament (MP), Alhassan Suhuyini, to prevent a near-brawl between Mr Ahenkorah and Mr Ablakwa, in parliament on Tuesday, 19 December over claims that expatriate businessmen paid $100,000 to sit at the president’s table at a recent event.

During the debate of budget estimates for the Trade Ministry, Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak said the Ministry sold access to the President during the recently held Ghana Business Expatriates awards.

Speaking to Class News in the lobby of parliament, Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr Ablakwa, described the act as inappropriate. Mr Ahenkorah then interrupted that interview amidst insults and personal attacks.

Tempers flared at this stage as Mr Ahenkorah verbally assaulted Mr Ablakwa leading to the latter being whisked away from the scene by Alhassan Suhuyini.

Having realised his misconduct, Mr Ahenkorah told Kwami Sefa Kayi of Peace FM on Thursday that: “I don’t think I will be led to that point anymore,”.
