Assin Roads are Leading to Cemetery-Assin South DCE

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Assin South District Assembly Hon. Derek Owusu Ambrose has stated emphatically that,the N8 highway that stretch from Nyankomasi Ahenkro to Assin Adubiase has turned to be a death roads for road users. People are dying on this road each and every day which is uncalled for.

Hon.Owusu Ambrose made this comments at the burial ceremony of Five female students of Assin Atobease,Kyekyewere Primary School who were killed by truck last Friday.

An Articulator truck with the registration number AS 8123-16 loaded with 850 bags of cement ran over six students of Assin Atobease,Kyekyewere Primary School killing five[5] on the spot in the hour of 1400pm last Friday.

According to the Assin South District Education Director Mr Stephen Abanfo who was an eyewitness narrated that, he was in the office when he heard a crazy sound on the road, so he rushed out only to see an articulator truck loaded with cement had a break of metal joints after the truck ran over a ramp forcing the vehicle to veer off the road and ran over the students, six student have been rushed to hospital and I don’t even think one will survive’ he added.

The Assin South Police Commander DSP Okyere Andam who was also at the scene confirmed to the media that, the Articulator truck was travelling from Takoradi to Kumasi but had a mechanical fault at Assin Atobease leading to the accident, the victims who are all female students of Assin Atobease Primary 5 and 6 respectively have been rushed to Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital Morgue for autopsy.

Some of the angry residents of Assin Atobease and Kyekyewere attributed the high rate of accident to lack of speed ramps on the highway. we have plan to erect the speed ramps on our own, if the highway authority fails to answer to our grievances we will block the road just like what happened on the Adenta-Medina highway.

Hon.Ambrose Owusu therefore called on the Ghana Highway Authority to as a matter of urgency have a second look at road network in assin south especially the N8.

According to him,he recalls the Korean contractors after completion of the road said “Good Road Big Cemetery”,he said, the hill at Assin atobease is so dangerous to the extend that, another truck nearly had another accident when chiefs and assembly members were planning for the burial of the departed students a day before yesterday.

Hon Owusu Ambrose also disclosed that,he made a lot of publications on the road way back 2008 when he was an Assembly member but yielded no result.He later pledged to do everything humanly possible as a District Chief Executive to have the road (N8)reconstructed.

Hon Derek Owusu Ambrose finally advised pedestrians and drivers to be extra careful on the road as we welcome Christmas festivities.

The Mass funeral that was held at the forecourt of the Assin South District Assembly was attended by various eminent personalities,Regional Public Relations Officer of Ghana Education Office, Central region Mr.Smart Tawiah,Assin South Education Director Mr.Stephen Abanfo,Assin Fosu Municipal Chief Executive Hon Nicholas Fiifi Baako,Nana Kwabena Wadie ii Chief of Nsuem,Rev.Sylvester Arhin Assin Fosu Pentecost Area Head and many more.
