A contract staff of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Martha Amakye who was declared wanted and consequently arrested for stealing GH¢900,000 has been found guilty by an Accra High Court, MyNewsGh.com has learnt.
Martha, who was an outsourced staffer from Noswall Management Service, a recruitment agency, fled when Stanbic Bank’s financial crime control unit found out that she was involved in fraudulent transactions. The court is holding on with sentencing pending the determination of her pregnancy status.
Using her role as a personal solution consultant at the Tema Community One branch of Stanbic Bank, Martha Amakye reportedly collected money from customers on the pretext of investing the money in fixed deposits for them but failed to do so, although her very action is illegal.
She is said to have done that without the bank’s permission, sometimes meeting customers outside the bank premises to collect their money as MyNewsGh.com reported at the time.
By the time the bank discovered the fraudulent scheme, Amakye had succeeded in running away with GH¢1.8m, prompting the bank to lodge a complaint with the police. She absconded but was later apprehended and put before court where she has been found guilty. The court is awaiting a report on whether she is pregnant before sentencing her, MyNewsGh.com learnt.
Apparently, Miss Martha Amakye who was recently awarded as Stanbic Bank’s star banker of the month and with her photo gigantically plastered at their Tema Community 1 has for many months been running a scheme from the comfort of the bank—an enterprise the bank now claims to have had no idea about.
