By a majority vote, the Supreme Court quashed a decision by the Ho High Court, granting a temporary injunction to prohibit the Electoral Commission from releasing the results of the Hohoe Constituency’s 2020 parliamentary election.
The five-member panel chaired by Justice Yaw Appaw concluded that, in their own submissions both to the High Court in Ho and to the Supreme Court, the appeal of the concerned parties suggested that they were seeking protection of their fundamental human rights to vote in the elections organized by the Electoral Commission.
To this end, there is no justifiable reason why the election of John Peter Amewu, the elected MP for the Hohoe Constituency, should be a matter of controversy in order to warrant an interim injunction to stop the results from being released.
