With barely a few weeks to the local assembly elections across the country to elect or maintain assembly members, it seems the contest in Tema Newtown a suburb of the Tema Region, has become a do or die affair.
A 24-year-old supporter of the incumbent assemblyman for the Homowo Electoral Area in the Tema Newtown suburb, Christian Yaw Amoah popularly known as CY, has sustained deep machete wounds after he was attacked by supporters of the incumbent main contender, Enoch Afutu Kotei.
His crime was for allegedly destroying campaign posters of the former (Enoch Kotei) on Tuesday evening the 1st of October 2019.
The issue is said to have prompted heightened tension between supporters of both candidates.
The Tema police command is said to have launched a manhunt for the suspect who is reported to be on the run.
The victim who is currently nursing his injuries is said to be living in fear.
Police have since warned of a possible crackdown on any reprisal attack.
