A large blast in the Lebanese capital, Beirut has killed at least 70 people and injured more than 4,000 others, the health minister says.
Videos show smoke billowing from a fire, then a mushroom cloud following the blast at the city’s port.
Officials are blaming highly explosive materials stored in a warehouse for six years.
President Michel Aoun tweeted it was “unacceptable” that 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was stored unsafely.
In an interview with a Lebanese TV, he stated on records that it would be “naive to describe such an explosion as due to fireworks”.
A CNN producer who is currently in Beirut where the massive explosion took place described the scene as a “Chaotic scene”, whiles in the emergency room in one of the hospitals in Beirut with doctors as they try every possible means to treat the hundreds of people injured in yesterday’s explosion.
The producer who goes by the name Ghazi Balkiz disclosed that some people had broken limbs with some also being showered with glass.
He further noted that a few people were seen lying on the floor having doctors try their best to put IVs into them with a couple of people also passing out.
