The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP], John Boadu says the Commission of Inquiry set up by government to investigate the disturbances that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election last Thursday is ‘not necessary’ and must be struck down.

He explained that, the NPP did not enjoy such privileges from the NDC when their members were assaulted during the Akwatia, Talensi and Atiwa bye-elections years back.

‘Uncle JB’ as affectionately called in politics said he supports any call for the Commission to be canceled – claiming that President Nana Addo has been too compassionate to the NDC.

“Oh yes lets cancel this Commission. The president is pampering the NDC too much. When we were beaten, nobody set up a Commission to investigate, so why must we do that for them?” he questioned in an interview with NEAT FM’s evening political program, ‘Torchlight’.

“Some members of the NDC are even saying it’s not necessary so Nana Addo should just cancel it, period,” he told host Mac-Jerry Osei Agyeman.

Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that government had set up a Commission of Inquiry to probe circumstances that led to the violence that occurred during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

The Commission was set up with the consent of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is out of the country.

A former Commissioner at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Justice Emile Short is the Chairperson of the Commission while former Dean of the Faculty of Law of GIMPA and private legal practitioner, Mr. Ernest Kofi Abotsi has been appointed as Secretary to the Commission.

Other members of the Commission are Henrietta Mensah Bonsu and Patrick K. Acheampong..
