Ex Prez Kufour declares LGBTQI+ stance-WATCH

Former President of Ghana John Agyekum Kufour has added his voice to the raging debate on homosexuality in Ghana.

The former President believes that the act is a sacrilege that should not be entertained in any right-thinking society.

“For the LGBT I am a conservative person. As you sit there very beautifully then I will take my eyes off you and rather look at kwadwo Dogo who is standing there, what does he have that I don’t have for me to chase him? Yours is different and it attracts me. That is a sacrilege. If God wanted us to be homosexuals he wouldn’t have created women this beautiful,” the former President said.

Ghana’s Parliament is currently sitting on a private members bill to criminalize LGBTQI+ and its related activities in Ghana.

The bill which was sponsored by the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Sam George and seven other colleagues has received the stiffest opposition from some intellectuals who believe it’s an affront on the human rights of people involved.

However, the Christian Community, Traditional Authorities and the Islamic Community have backed the bill and have called on Parliament to pass it into Law.

The Legal and Constitutional Committee of Parliament is currently organizing a public hearing on the bill.

Meanwhile, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party who is the cousin of the President has openly condemned the bill and has said that he will always support people involved in LGBTQI+ and its related activities.
