Eyes on the Ground: Police tighten security checks at Okponglo

Perhaps one of the most used routes toward the hub of the capital as well as Aburi and Dodowa, Okponglo has been cited by the police as an area that needs additional manning.

GhanaWeb cameras captured security personnel put up a checkpoint at the Legon Okponglo traffic light on Day 9 of the lockdown.

A police patrol truck had been used to seal off one part of the road while the other had been barricaded, to allow them make checks on road users plying that road.

Commendably, the ever evasive ‘okada’ riders were equally checked by the Police Service before they were allowed passage.

During President Akufo-Addo’s fifth address on the updates of the country’s state regarding the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, he stressed on the need for increased vigilantism by security personnel enforcing the restrictions directive, albeit professionally.

“…to enhance command and control, more senior officers have been deployed at the operational level. And each member of our security services participating in the exercise has been handed an aid memoir highlighting essentially, the guidelines of the operation,” he noted.

Some parts of the country, namely Accra, Tema, Obuasi and Kumasi have been placed on partial lockdown by the president as a containment measure to help curb the spread of the deadly fast-spreading Coronavirus.

The directive which was effected on 30th March has entered Day 10.
