Ghana’s first drone distribution centre to be ready by end of June

Ghana is set to have its first drone distribution centre in the third quarter of 2019.

The controversial $12.5m contract will begin with focus on health facilities in the Eastern, Central and some parts of the Greater Accra Region.

According to the Head of System Integration at ZIPLINE Ghana, Daniel Marfo the operational drones which will be used to start the project will complement healthcare delivery.

“Currently we are in the process of putting up the first distribution centre which is situated in a little town called Domenyako just about 5km outside of Suhum. Once we have the centre built up and ready we hope to be able to do an official launch and start offering the service to the facilities within the vicinity somewhere before the end of June 2.”

He added: “The drone delivery doesn’t replace anything within the healthcare space, it complements it and brings further improvement so for instance all the health facilities in Ghana receive periodic shipment of medicines and supply.”
