The outbreak of Coronavirus across the world in the early stages of this year has seen many great men and women bow to the disease.

Many valuable lives have been snatched from u since the disease found its way unto the shores of Ghana in March, 2020.

Ghana’s death toll of 294, even though is relatively low compared to the number of confirmed cases has still had an adverse effect on us.

Weight Lose

We have lost some great minds and valuable lives who played very important roles in the country.

As it stands now, Ghana is on track to successfully beating the pandemic with active cases standing at 564.

My News Ghana takes you through a list of valuable lives that were taken from us due to the coronavirus disease.

Tarek Minkara

The 61-year-old astout businessman was the first person to succumb to the dreaded COVID-19 in Ghana. His death was reported on 21st March 2020. He was a popular spare part dealer in Kumasi.

Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie (Sir John)

Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, also died of COVID-19 at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on July 1.

Daniel Okley Mensah

Former BOST CEO, George Okley Mensah Has Died › Ghana Trending Online

The former Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST) Company Limited, George Okley Mensah, died of COVID-19 atthe 37 Military Hospital on June 22, 2020.

Kwabena Manu

Executive member of the New Patriotic Party in Denmark died in a Danish Hospital on March 19, 2020.

Samuel Bediako Waterbeg

Samuel Waterberg was only 41, but died of COVID-19 in Ghana - The Independent Ghana

The 41-year-old  died at the Ga East Municipal Hospital in Accra on March 27, 2020.

Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour

Father of former Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) President Bice Osei Kufuor (Obour) and Chief of Juaso Oyoko clan died at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital on March 26, 2020, after testing positive for COVID-19.

Prof Jacob Plange-Rhule

He was one of the frontline doctors in the fight against COVID-19, succumbed to the disease on April 10. The Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons died on April 10, 2020. He died at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra.

Former head nurse of Jacobi psychiatric unit dies of coronavirus

50-year-old US-based Ghanaian nurse died at the Lincoln Medical Center in New York on March 24 after contracting the virus.

28-year-old pregnant nurse, Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong, died shortly after testing positive for coronavirus.


Doreen Tay

Another Ghanaian nurse dies of coronavirus in the US

The 43-year-old US-based Ghanaian died of the disease on April 21, 2020.

The 48-year old Medical Superintendent of the Kwadaso SDA Hospital died on Saturday, June 13, 2020.

Younger brother of Dr Harry Owusu Boateng, Kwame Boateng, also died of COVID-19 a week after his elder brother. Rports say that he collapsed and was rushed to a hospital in the Ashanti Region where he was pronounced dead on arrival on June 21.

Dr. Richard Kisser, died at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).he was a respected consultant surgeon at the Trust Hospital, died on July 12, 2020.
