Hassan Ayariga says he’s halted Ejura visit for fear of his own life

Founder and leader of All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga has rescinded his decision to go to Ejura in the Ashanti Region as planned after sensing his life could be in danger, MyNewsGh.com reports

The politician and his entourage were billed to speak to the rioting youth of Ejura following the murder of social media activist Mohammed Ibrahim alias Kaaka, whose death has sparked unrest leading to other deaths and injuries of residents.

“This morning, we planned to go to Ejura to speak to the youth and the family members of the deceased but Dr. Ayariga has to cancel the his trip because we understand there is no peace in Ejura and we could endanger our lives if we go”, APC Ashanti Regional Secretary, Salifu Issaku confirmed.

It would be recalled that Kaaka a social media activist and a known member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) was severely beaten until he was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where he passed on.

This is said have heightened tension in the area after youth of the town went on rampage demanding that his killers be brought to book or they may be compelled to take the law into their own hands.

In the ensuing melee, armed soldiers fired into the protestors killing two and injuring others which has escalated the situation in the area amidst condemnation by various civil society groups and leadership of various political parties.

As a way of calming nerves, the APC was preparing to visit the troubled town until it picked intelligence that the situation was not conducive.

Salifu Issaku however stated that, “we’ll still go and talk to the our Zongo brothers and sisters when there is need to but for now, our trip is cancelled sine die”
