Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, last night, revealed an interesting fact about her religious background that many people did not know.
Mrs. Koomson in the course of a conversation with Metro TV’s Paul Adom Okyere on his Good Evening Ghana Show, revealed that she was born, bred a Muslim and even practiced the faith for a significant part of her life before converting to Christianity following her marriage to her Christian and civil servant husband with whom she has been blessed with three children.
The Fisheries Minister described her Islamic background as very strong and said she practiced the Muhammadan faith until she was 22 years before switching, a decision her parents who are natives of Bimbilla and Salaga in Northern Ghana did not take kindly at first but ultimately had to accept as her marriage proved a happy one.
Detailing how she became Christian, the Awutu Senya East MP said the plan after marrying her Methodist husband was to keep her faith while her partner kept his but as time goes, she was confronted with some spiritual challenges which her husband Christian prayers helped her overcome, a situation she disclosed influenced her decision to switch. She said after she made known her decision to convert, even her husband initially thought she was joking and only took her seriously when she started going to church with him.
