I’ll manoeuvre my way as presiding 1st Deputy Speaker to vote on issues – Joe Wise

Parliament’s First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu leaves no stone unturned to ensure that government laws and initiatives are implemented before Parliamentarians (MPs) are authorized.

“In an interview observed by Mynewsghana on Kumasi-based Fox FM, the Bekwai lawmaker stated, “If I need to relinquish my place as First Deputy Speaker before I can participate in voting on the floor of Parliament, I will do so to ensure that my government wins a majority.


The Speaker of Parliament or any of the deputies are not supposed to vote on the floor of the House, according to the standing orders of Ghana’s parliament, while the person in question presides over a subject.

Speaking of growth, Hon. Because of the current number of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs), Joseph Osei Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise, said he would do everything within the limits of the law to vote, except in a situation where he is not allowed to.


“Joe Wise told the host, Kwaku Kyerematen Nkansah, “If I hold sway and I see a need for me to participate, I will challenge the motion for my Colleague or the Speaker himself to come and preside and I can vote.

Hon. , Joseph Osei Owusu suggested that as it stands, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has a majority in parliament and thus government undertakings will run smoothly counter to claims.

“The only independent MP has declared to caucus with us, so we clearly have 138 against 137 for NDC,” said the Bekwai NPP legislator in the Ashanti region.
