JUST In: NDC’s Kwasi Dawood remanded

A Cape Coast Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Dorinda Smith Arthur has remanded into prison custody Communications Officer of the Central Regional of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in an alleged case of incest.

This comes after an earlier report said he was granted a GHS30,000 bail with two sureties to be justified.

Mr Dawood was charged with abetment of crime – to wit, illegal abortion and incest.

He is to reappear in court in two weeks.

The prosecutor, ASP Daniel Gadzo Mensah told the court that Mr Dawood, who is the biological father of the victim, allegedly impregnated her through an incestuous affair.

The accused person, according to the prosecutor, then conspired with a medical doctor, to perform an illegal abortion on the victim.

The girl then confided in her mother and proceeded to lodge a complaint with the Swedru District police. The case was later transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Cape Coast.

Mr Dawood has pleaded not guilty.

When the news broke, he issued a statement denying the allegations levelled against him.

In a statement, Mr Dawood said: “I wish to state unequivocally that the said publication is a false and malicious fabrication”.

He also hinted at filing a defamation suit against the newspaper Daily Guide, which first published the report.

He now sits in remand and is billed to appear before court in two weeks.
