Justify why you’re conferring a doctorate degree on Akufo-Addo – Odike challenges UCC

Founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) is demanding convincing explanations from the Authorities of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on why they are to confer a Degree of Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership (Honoris Causa) on President Akufo-Addo.

“It’s unnecessary for no mean University like UCC to say they are going to confer doctorate degree on Akufo-Addo. What has Akufo-Addo done to deserve a doctorate degree? They should come out and tell Ghanaians”, Odike quizzed on Kumasi-based Akoma FM morning show monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to receive an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Saturday, May 29, 2021.

Speaking to the development ahead of the weekend’s program, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike who has been an ardent critic of the President Akufo-Addo government the move by the UCC’s authorities as shambolic which should not be entertained.

A letter signed by Secretary to the Cabinet, Mercy Dapaah-Karikari for Secretary to the President, dated 17th May 2021 and copied to the Minister of Education said the President has accepted the decision by the Council of the University to honor him.

“It’s an act open politics and authorities of UCC are trying to get favour from the government”, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike told host Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin during panel discussion

The honour, Degree of Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership (Honoris Causa), will be conferred on the President at a special congregation to be held at the university campus at Cape Coast at 10:00am.
