The Inchaban township, a suburban community of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis was awakened to a sad incident this morning as a trailer loaded with bags of cement overturned at the Police Barrier, taking the life of a young man; Agya Abakah. The young man believed to be in his late twenties, was walking at the pedestrian walkway of the Inchaban-Takoradi Police Barrier, when at his blind side, the heavy loaded cargo overturned on him.
It is reported that Agya Abakah was on his way to work at a construction site of Amandi Ghana Limited. No sound, cry was heard from the poor man the instant the trailer fell on him. Temporal structures serving as stores along the load were vandalized in the process. The driver of the trailer with vehicle number GT 8117- X was bound to off load the cement bags at a nearby warehouse early this morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver escaped with minor injuries. The heavy cargo truck was taking a curve through the barrier and lost its bearing due to some ruts that had developed at the barrier. It slowly fell of to the shoulders of the road and the load poured out.
The Police, Fire Service and the Ghana Ambulance Service have all been to the scene trying to manage the situation. In the meantime, the driver and the lifeless body of Agya Abakah have been taken away from the scene. The police is working at offloading the trailer and getting it moved from the scene.
Traffic had started building up on Inchaban-Takoradi lane of the N1 road, yet the police is doing its best to calm situtions and ensure a free flow of vehicles without having any evidence at the accident scene compromised.
For hours, residents watched helplessly with cries over the lost neighbour. Some say, the young man worked as a labourer at Amandi and had always walked to work. Relatives of the lost one are yet to be contacted.
