LGBTQI+ Bill to be amended after public hearing – Committee Chairman

Chairman of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee has agreed to amend the LGBTQI+ Bill after its second public hearing on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values.

The public hearing has been tabled for the various groups that submitted a memoranda on the Bill to clarify and defend their submissions before the Committee.

Presentations were made by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, Consortium of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Service Delivery and Christian Council of Ghana. The eight (8) Sponsors of the Bill led by Hon. Sam George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram made their presentations base on the objectives and principles for the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual and Ghanaian Family Values Bill,2021.

Other present were the Coalition of Muslim Organisation of Ghana, Network for Women’s Right, Mr. Jacob Osei Yeboah Independent Candidate for the 2016 Presidential Election and Ghana Catholic Bishop’s Conference.

After the presentations, Chairman of the Committee and Ranking Member, Hon. Anyimadu Antwi and Hon. Bernard Ahiafo agreed that the Committee will amend the Bill to capture all the vital information provided by the various groups and led sponsor Hon. Sam Geogre.
