Mahama displayed his Savannah YES vote out of frustration, opportunism – NPP Dep. Comm. boss

A Deputy Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party Akbar Khomeini has described as opportunistic and desperate the public show of vote by former President John Mahama in the recent referendum.

The YES vote of former President John Dramani Mahama in the just-ended referendum for the proposed Savannah Region was leaked as reported.

It qas unclear how the supposedly “secret” ballot of Mr Mahama leaked. However, from the image, it appeared the former President displayed the stamped ballot.

Mr Mahama cast his ballot in the referendum on Thursday 27th December 2018 and left for Accra afterwards.

The ex-president who voted YES to endorse the decision to carve the Savannah Region from the current Northern Region, has been one of the major contributors to the course of the project by donating a total of GH¢50,000.

But Akbar Khomeini said Mr. Mahama is “desperate in the matter of the proposed Savannah Region.”

“It was said that Mr. Mahama made the highest donation of GHc50,000 to support the activities towards the creation of the region. That was a lie. I know as a matter fact that the GHc50,000 isn’t the highest”, he wrote.

“Then he decided to stage another poor PR by showing his vote in favor of the region. Whiles President Akufo-Addo is thinking about bringing development to the people of Savannah Region, Mr. Mahama is thinking about patronizing the region for the next election.” he added.

He went on: “I understand the frustrations of Mr. Mahama in assuming that the people of the new region would punish him politically.”

He recalled how Mr Mahama as President failed to create the new regions for the people.

“For 8 years, the late revered King of the Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bawa Doshie led his people to unceasingly knock at the doors of their son ( whom they made politically ) to help them realize their dream of a region. King Doshie died in the process and his successor, the Great Ndewura Jakpa Tumtumba Boresa continued the plea and prayer to the most powerful Gonja politician in the history of Gonjaland.”

“Mr. Mahama failed these Great Kings and his own people. President Akufo-Addo decided to respond to urgent need of the people of Gonjaland. Anybody in Mr. Mahama’s shoes would feel uncomfortable going to vote for something he could have done but failed to do. Don’t worry about his theatrics! It’s difficult for him. President Akufo-Addo will be credited eternally for doing this for Gonjaland. Mr. Mahama will be credited eternally for neglecting to do it for Gonjaland.”
