Most MMDCEs are incompetent – NPP MP openly admits

Member of Parliament(MP) for Asante Akyem North, Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi has admitted that most Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) do not know their jobs.

According to him, they see their jobs as an 8 am-5 pm job like civil servants but that is not supposed to be the case as they are charged with ensuring that the people in their Municipalities and District enjoy quality of life.

Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi who was speaking on Kumasi-based Wontumi FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com cited an example of a broken pipe which he had to come from Accra to get it fixed by the Ghana Water Company while the MCE claimed there was no money.

To him, MMDCEs should not see their jobs as a civil servant job but rather a position where they are expected to be seen working on responding to challenges faced by the people in their Municipalities or Districts.

“Some DCEs have taken their jobs as civil servants. They move to the office at 8am and back home at 5pm. But it’s not a civil service job. The job is a field job and its about the people so you must be seen by the people to be working. So there should not be any form of favouritism in the appointment at this moment.”

“They don’t know their responsibilities. In their mind waking up at 6am and going to work to sign letters brought to them by the Coordinating Directors then go back home at 5am. That is not your job,” he added.
