National Security men on Wednesday afternoon invaded a press conference organized by the Movement for Bawumia for President 2024’ at the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi in the capital of the Ashanti Region.
The crusade, according to the National Chairman of the ‘Movement for Bawumia for President 2024,’ Mr Duncan Opoku Boateng was to add their voices to the conflicting Galamsey issues confronting the country and also take the opportunity to thank Dr Kwaku Oteng, owner of Angel Group of Companies for “his advice to us concerning our plea on Captain Smart to resume work following his suspension.”
National Chairman of the ‘Movement for Bawumia for President 2024,’ Mr Duncan Opoku Boateng address the press after the encounter.
Addressing the press after his encounter with National Security operatives, he disclosed that the approach with the security men was “very cordially and for that matter they considered the message for the well-being of the party.”
“Though the message we are to bring to you to send across Ghana was anything better to remote NPPs agenda to break the eight come 2024 yet whatever we do, the opposition wants to barricade whatever we have to say.
“As a senior member of the communications team of the party within the region, do you expect me to bring my own party down?” he challenged.
He imputed that whoever called for their meeting’s impediment has done the party more harm than good because the message on their agenda was worthwhile to help the incumbent government retain their seat in 2024.
When asked whether the decision was part of the New Patriotic Party’s ‘culture of silence’ towards it members, he told that, “NPP can never promote culture of silence.”
Stranded media men on the grounds
“We have not been coerce to keep quiet because those of you who knows me believe very well that I am not the relaxed type.
“This move is orchestrated by the opposition and we are yet to investigate the source. It is never coming from the NPP, either it’s from some people who took advantage of the movement some time ago and were sacked.”
He expressed that heavy financial loss he has incurred following acquisition of funds to sponsor the program including transportation of Movement members from other part of the country to grace the occasion.
Mr. Duncan Opoku Boateng vividly made known that the meeting was not annulled and so the media will be communicated on when it will be scheduled.
“We have been told to defer or postpone the meeting,” he said.
“I’m pleading on you the media that anytime you hear our second call that the press conference is coming on, please do well to come. You have been very kind to us and we’ll never stop mentioning your name.”
