The foreign affairs minister and a member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, Madam Shirley Ayorkor-Botchwey, has issued a press statement setting the records straight for her alleged statement aginst John Dumelo, a Parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.
Hon. Botchwey was of the view that, her statement was misconstrued and that she had no intentions for disrespecting John Dumelo nor the Creative Arts Industry.
During her support for the NPP parliamentary aspirant as well as incumbent MP, Madam Lydia Alhassan, the foreign affairs minister was alleged to have said;
“Parliament is for serious-minded people and not people who have done some movies and think they are popular.”
‘It is a serious place, I will tell him, the laws of the country are enacted in parliament. If our President can continue his job very well, he needs Lydia Alhassan in Parliament to do the job so that all you need as a constituency will be easily given to you,”
This comment attracted a lot of backlashes from the public, hence the need to address the public to set the records straight.
In her press release, the Anyaa-Sowutuom MP assured the general public and members of the Creative Arts industry that she has so much respect for the arts and her comment was not to pour scorn on the industry.
