POLITICIZATION OF NATIONAL ISSUES NOT A BAD THING -Osei Kwabena Kyei-Baffour

The way the public and section of the media start to accuse people of politicizing national issues when they try to share their opinions on issues at hand is overwhelming.
Whenever opposition leaders, opinion leaders or particular group of people, intervene in an instance of government failure on a certain issue and demand redress, then the ruling party and a section of the press pounce on them accusing them of politicization.
The Oxford Dictionary keeps the definition of politicization neutral, that is “To make political, especially to make (a person, group etc) politically aware or politically active”. This means that, “to politicize an issue” is to make it a matter of public concern and demand change.
But in Ghana here, some opposition parties and opinion leaders exaggerate things when addressing issues of public interest, which makes people think politicization is a bad thing but that is not the case. They rather criticize destructively instead of constructive criticism.
The job of political parties is to mediate between the people and the state. If they did not do this, what use do they have?
I think politicization is a good thing but as citizens of this country, we must try as much as possible to criticize constructively and not give to a destructive criticism when there is an issue of public interest.
