“Primary 1 politician” Vida Yakong can’t compare herself to me,’ -Upper East Regional Minister

Tangoba Abayage, the Upper East Regional Minister, has taken yet another stab at the defeated National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Nabdam Constituency, Dr. Vida Yakong.

Mrs. Abayage, speaking in an interview on Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM, said her chance to win the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary polls at her first opportunity puts her leaps and bounds ahead of Dr. Yakong, so it was irrational for Dr. Yakong to attempt to taunt her when she failed in the elections on December 7.

For her, before she succeeds in her desire of becoming a parliamentary nominee, Dr. Yakong, who is a professor at the University for Development Studies (UDS), is in no position to challenge shades at her for not winning a general election.

Mrs. Abayage claims that the unsuccessful parliamentary applicant of the NDC should have learned a thing or two from her on how to win the elections of the party because she defeated a political phoenix like Mr. Kofi Adda in the primaries of the NPP rather than throwing snide remarks at her under the pretext of advice.

“I won primaries over no other person but they call him the political guru. In the NPP Kofi Adda is one of the supremos in the region and people thought nobody could defeat him but I defeated and then you, Vida come to tell me that I should stop slaying  and that a calf should not laugh at a hornless cow.

You are not hornless cow. You’re a calf. You contested primaries and you lost. I contested and won. If there is any hornless cow, I should be the hornless cow because I have crossed the stage of being a calf. Until you go to primaries and win, you can’t compare yourself to me. If (we were in school), at least I should be in JHS 1, she is still in class 1,”

For some time now, these two influential women in politics have been at each other’s throat. It all began in 2019 when, rather than focusing on promoting her bid to become the NDC’s parliamentary nominee for the Nabdam Constituency, Madam Abayage attacked the professor for criticizing the Akufo-Addo regime. The Regional Minister alleged that during the primaries, Dr. Yakong displayed political childishness and that resulted in her failure.

However, the UDS tutor did not reply instantly until the minister in the Navrongo Central Constituency also lost in the parliament elections. She took a crack at Mrs. Abayage, charging her of manipulating delegates to win the primaries with money and being as a leader dishonest and immoral.

The minister hit her directly, saying that she is not the appropriate candidate to shame her for losing the election because she struggled to win the primaries of the party against such a “political muppet” twice.
