South Africa President Self-Isolates Over Covid-19

The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has gone into self-isolation after being exposed to the novel coronavirus.

A statement from South Africa’s presidency made the announcement.

According to the statement, he went into self-isolation after a guest at a dinner he attended on Saturday tested positive for Coronavirus.

The fundraising dinner is said to have been hosted by the Adopt-a-School Foundation. It was accordingly attended by 35 guests at a hotel in the commercial hub of Johannesburg.

The guest in question name is yet unknown but is said to have exhibited symptoms on Sunday and was tested on Monday before receiving a positive result on Tuesday.

Accordingly, every guest that attended the event
have been notified about the case on Tuesday.

According to the statement, “The president is showing no symptoms at this time and will, in line with Covid-19 health advice, be tested should symptoms manifest.”

“The president will perform his duties remotely and will observe the guidelines that apply to self-quarantine,” it added.

“The event adhered stringently to Covid-19 protocols and directives on screening, social distancing and the wearing of masks… the president himself removed his mask only when dining and addressing the guests,” the statement added.
