American singer Beyoncé has opened up about her latest project which features many African music stars including Ghana’s dancehall superstar Shatta Wale. Beyoncé curated two albums featuring international artistes for the Lion King movie which are called Spirit and The Gift. On Tuesday June 16, 2019, she released the tracklist for the albums which showed that The Gift had a collection of African musicians including Shatta Wale, and Nigeria’s Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi, Tekno, and Yemi Alade.

In her latest video interview, Beyoncé gave reasons for her selection of the type of songs and music stars who featured on the album.

According to the American singer, she saw the Lion King album as a letter to Africa and thus wanted to make it authentic. To achieve this, Beyoncé decided to feature the best artistes from the continent to give it the feel she wanted. The renowned musician further explained that the album is not just about the music but says a lot about African music. “The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa and not just use some of the sound and give my interpretation. “I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa. A lot of the drums, the chants, [and], all of these incredible new sounds mixed with some of the producers from America, we kind of created our own genre,” Beyoncé stated in an interview with ABC.

Meanwhile, Stonebwoy has reacted to news that his compatriot, Shatta Wale, has featured on a song by Beyonce.
