Two powerful Tamale Chiefs in court over who has the authority to celebrate Damba Festival

Two popular rivalry chiefs in the Tamale Metropolitan, the Tamale Dakpema and Tamale Duglana are in court over who has the right to celebrate the Damba Festival

The two traditional rulers were in court to explain why they cannot be restrained from celebrating the Damba Festival .


The case were held at the Tamale magistrate court. Mounting the witness box, they were made to remove their highly revered red hat, which is their symbol of their titles Tindana, meaning landowners

According to the Northern Regional crime officer of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga told metro TV in an interview that the police intelligence picked up information that the two chiefs were arming themselves to clash during the Damba Festival.


The two were taken to court for hearing. The case however has been adjourned to Thursday October 21st According to the police officer, the swift action was necessary because they have seen some before where two chiefs clashed over authority on who’s to celebrate the Damba Festival.
