You brought change – IGP Dampare praised for prompt action on Tamale NEDCO brutalities

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare has come in for praise on social media after the interdiction of four officers with the Tamale Regional Police Command for assaulting some residents of Tamale over alleged power theft.

Yesterday, September 21, 2021, videos of the officers flogging residents alleged to have stolen electricity through illegal connections went viral online. Many called on the IGP to take prompt action against the officers involved.

Within hours, the police administration interdicted the four police officers and have promised to support the victims to seek appropriate medical care.

This uncharacteristic action taken by the service against its own officers has had many praising the IGP for his show of decisive leadership.

Award-winning investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni wrote that he did not think he would live to see this day – a day when the leadership of the police administration will act with such promptitude in issuing sanctions against its own.

Others praised Dr Dampare for bringing a breath of fresh air to the service.
